Lomi Lomi Massage

Lomi Lomi simply means massage or loving hands.  It is an antique healing massage derived from the master healers of Hawaii.  In Hawaii they believe that everything seeks harmony and love.  This fabulous technique works gently yet deeply into the muscles with continuous, flowing strokes, totally nurturing the body and enabling the recipient to relax, give in and simply "be".  The focus of the practitioner is completely on the client using loving hands and a loving heart.

This method assists the body to let go of old beliefs, patterns and behaviors that cause limitations and which are stored in the cells of our body.  People generally thing of these being stored in our brain.  This is not the case, they are in the cells of our bodies.  The goal is to release the blockages and give energy a new direction.  It facilitates healing on a mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.

The Hawaiians view all aspects of the body as one and believe that the physical, mental and spiritual are all part of the "whole" self thus when healing is affected on one level, all levels are affected.

What to Expect During a Lomi Lomi Session

A Lomi Lomi session starts with a stillness between the practitioner and client.  Gentle hands are placed on the clients back and a blessing is said asking for whatever healing is needed to occur.  There is no set format and no two are ever identical.  You will feel long fluid, rhythmic motion that feels like gentle waves over the body.  Various body parts will be massaged at different times which makes it very difficult for the brain to focus on the two different areas at once.  Oils are used in this all body massage and the participant wears a movable loin cloth.  This allows the practitioner to make long sweeping strokes the full length of the body when needed.

What to Expect in a Regualar Massage Session

Standard sessions last 1 hour.  Shorter or longer sessions are available.  Each session is tailored to meet your special needs.  A session may cover the full body or focus on specific areas such as back, neck, feet, or legs.

Before the session the therapist will discuss a complete health history.  Be sure and tell them about any cronic aches and pains.  Areas that need special attention and any medical conditions which they need to be aware of.  Also tell them if you have any preferences about the type of massage you like such as extre deep, light work etc.  After the session the therapist may suggest ways to help you deal with stress on a day to day basis.

Privacy and modesty are protected at all times.  You may wear as much or as little as you modesty dictates.  You will be covered with a full body sheet drape (only the area  being worked on will be exposed).

During the massage be sure and inform your therapist if you find anything uncomfortable.  Due to some cancer medications pressure of the strokes should not be beyond wher it "hurts so good".  If the pressure is too deep bruising may occur.  If you want more pressure be sure and let it be known.  We have your best interest in mind and want you to be totally satisfied with your massage experience.

Please advise your therapist if you experienced any skin sensitivities.  Oil is the primary lubricant used.  A variety of scents are available, or no scent at all may be used.  Scents are pure herbal essences chosen for their therapeutic or aromatic value.  Powder, lotion or no lubricant at all m ay also be used depending on the skin type, personal preference, or techniques being used.

Some people experience soreness, a mild headache or nausea the day of or the day after a massage.  This is due to the body's natural process of elimination toxins.  Many people find it helpful to take a warm shower or bath, drinking plenty of water and spend 5 - 10 minutes doing deep breathing exercises.
